Sara Belfry is an experienced crisis and strategic communicator, with excellent media relationships across the state of Kansas. She is a respected communicator and advisor, skilled in working to reach diverse audiences, responding quickly during times of crisis or change, and achieving ambitious public relations goals.
Prior to joining Hickam Public Affairs, Sara served as the Communications Director for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), where she directed all communications and media relations for the three divisions of the agency – public health, environment, and health care finance.
Before her work at KDHE, Sara served as the Deputy Director of Communications for Kansas Governor Sam Brownback. In this role, she was responsible for the Governor’s social media presence and assisted in creating talking points, media responses and press releases for the Governor’s office.
Sara has also worked at Kansas Department on Aging, now the Kansas Department on Aging and Disability Services, and at the Kansas Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Minnesota, Sara moved to Kansas to attend University of Kansas where she earned a degree in Political Science. She currently lives in Lawrence.
