Hickam Public Affairs specializes in grassroots advocacy campaigns. We maintain a vast and diverse network of contacts throughout the state and work with our clients to implement strategies to reach the grassroots, educate them on important issues, and help them connect with opinion leaders and elected officials. We see our role as connecting people with causes they care about and issues that affect them, and activating those individuals to effect legislative change. For clients facing unique challenges, our firm offers distinctive results as exhibited in the case study below.
Challenge
Every five years, Congress must reauthorize child nutrition programs. Congress debates funding levels and has the opportunity to amend the programs and policies that seek to ensure children have access to healthy, nutritious food. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, is crucial to the policymaking process.
Solution
Working with a national non-profit organization focused on child hunger, the Hickam Public Affairs team created a plan to ensure that Senator Roberts understood the important changes that needed to be made to improve federal child nutrition programs.
Results
Our team partnered with local Kansas food pantries, large food distribution nonprofits, Kansas social services organizations and the Kansas Farm Bureau to reach out to Senator Roberts. We assisted with the placement of a variety of earned media, third-party influencer contact and direct engagements — all focused on ensuring that Senator Roberts understood the importance of positive changes to child nutrition policy.
